Teh Tarik

A Slice of Singapore Life

To be credited as my first ever acrylic piece, Teh Tarik: A Slice of Singapore Life, is also my first entry into the prestigious UOB Painting of the Year competition back in 2006.

Very much inspired by anecdotal paintings of cityscapes and street life, Teh Tarik offers a glimpse of the colourful activities that takes place in Singapore’s very own Bugis Street. The seller of the “teh tarik”, which translates as “pulled tea”, bears witness to the various people who buys his animated concoction—from families to students, even the young boy, patiently awaiting his drink.

This local drink not only quenches thirst, but offers a much-needed break away from the hustle and bustle of Singapore life.
